And as the World of Wine Awaits… Our Vinitrek Begins!
Some of the world’s greatest ideas, I’m convinced of this–though I have no proof–were hatched over glasses of wine. I’m guessing theater, air travel, probably the printing press. Just to name a few. And add to that list Vinitrek.
We’ve decided that, since we love traveling to the places around the world where wine is made–some of the most amazing and beautiful spots on Earth–maybe we’re not the only ones. We don’t talk tannins or residual sugars much, but we enjoy learning about the process and the product, and we figure, maybe you do too. So off we go: over the next few months, taking our cameras to some of the best wineries, restaurants, wine shops and resorts in the world.
If you’ve got recommendations, tips, advice, or just want to say hello, we want to hear from you. We’ve already gotten some great advice on places we admit we don’t know much about (other than we like their wine) like New Zealand and South Africa. We could always use more insider info. Sometimes a day can turn on the person pouring at the tasting room. A good entertainer and educator can turn decent wine into an extraordinary experience. (An extraordinary wine into an experience of a lifetime)
So we’re off and running. And you’ll see the results starting this summer. But if you can’t wait, introduce yourself here, and follow us on Twitter. We’ll let you in on a few sneak previews along the way and get your thoughts. We want to make Vinitrek a source for you when you plan your next trip–a place you can tell a friend about if they’re thinking of making their first wine vacation. We hope it’s all here to send them on their way with a lot of good info and a few places already on the “must visit” list.
So sure, it’s a tough assignment. But somebody had to do it.
Cheers!

I’ve got some great French connections for you if your interested. Also lots of crazy German cellars that scream charm, passion and happen to have some pretty terrific wine!
Hi Wendy!
Thanks for visiting the site-in-progress… and we are definitely interested in French connections, crazy German cellars…and you, of course!

A must are the wine hospitals of Strasbourg & Wurzburgh!
Strasbourg is a cellar/ gift shop with one of the oldest bottles in the world dating to the 1700’s. Why bring someone a stuffed animal or balloon when you can bring them a bottle?
Wurzburgh has an ancient cellar entrance right past the lab! Incredible carved casks, delicious wine and each patient gets a glass a day! They also have a great wine cafe for lunch or dinner.
Wendy!
Those ideas sound outrageous and fun. We’d also like to get you in front of our cameras before the site launch… maybe you could share some of your wine passion and a few good stories from the cellars, stores and vineyards you’ve visited.
In the meantime, I’ll just ponder the concept of a “wine hospital.” What on Earth could be wrong with that?
Mark
Mark,
Raymond Winery in St. Helena, CA is my favorite. Their Generations blend is out of this world. My wife and I took the tour and did a tasting and loved every wine on their list – which is rare. If you haven’t been there already, I highly recommend it and can pass along a name or two.
Frank
Frank,
Thanks for the tip! I’m adding it to our must-visit list!
